## Resume

Nicky van Foreest studied Theoretical Physics at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. After having worked for KPN Research, Fortis Investments, and the Bell Labs department of Lucent Technologies in Enschede, he started a PhD project under supervision of Prof. Mandjes and Prof. Zijm in October 2000. The subject of this project is the performance analysis of stochastic fluid models of flow control protocols, such as TCP.## Thesis

To download my thesis `Queues with Congestion-dependent Feedback', which I finished in 2004, press: djvu or pdf or ps.gz.

I wrote my thesis in LaTeX. The following source files show the LaTeX commands used to format it: thesis, titlepages.tex, and style file. For explanations and further information, see: Tips for PhD Writers by Leo Breebaart## Research interest

Queueing theory, flow control, Markov processesI maintain the Queues library for OMNeT++, which contains a number of queueing algorithms, such as the multi-server queue. Sometimes I use message sequence charts to visualize simulation traces. This is the code I used to make it. (You need msc.sty to latex the program's output.)

This is an implementation in Octave (a GNU version of Matlab) of the Euler algorithm, published by Abate & Whitt, to invert Laplace transforms numerically. This page of Whitt provides all background information (articles) you may possibly need.
