Abstract:
This thesis investigates the effect of phishing education on secondary school pupils in the Netherlands. This group of internet users is often overlooked in phishing education and is therefore at risk of being targeted. To analyse the effect of phishing education, an intervention in the form of a presentation and two short tests was created and tested at a Dutch secondary school. The results showed that the intervention significantly increased the accuracy of pupils’ ability to distinguish malicious URLs from benign URLs. These findings highlight the importance of phishing education and show that even a brief intervention can significantly improve phishing awareness among secondary school pupils.
