Assignment: animal vital signs and activity

Play with your pet: Analyse your pets activities or vital signs

  Problem Statement:

In this project, we want to use millimeter-wave frequency modulated continuous wave radars (FMCW) to monitor and check animals' health. Tiny body (chest) movements in animals and the changes it makes in the received electromagnetic waves help us extract vital signs. Moreover, different types of activities done by an animal can also have specific changes in the reflected electromagnetic waves. Considering that, we are able to estimate vital signs or the type of activities done by an animal. Note millimetre-wave FMCW radar has been tested for medical cases, so it is safe for both humans and animals, and you can work on this project at home with your pet (dog, cat, rabbit, hamster, etc.). Moreover, it is a remote monitoring system so that nothing will be attached to the animal.

Task:

Based on your capabilities, you are free to choose either activity recognition or vital sign detection.

1.       Vital sign: In this case, you need to work with an mm-wave radar. You will be assisted with using the radar and data collection through it. This task requires more mathematical background and further signal processing is necessary to extract the vital sign.

2.       Activity recognition: In this case, you need to work with an mm-wave radar. You will be assisted with using the radar and data collection through it. This task requires some experience in Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL).

Work:

10% Theory, 30% Data collection, 50% Simulations and analysis, 10%Writing
