Bachelor Assignments

Bottom up:
UNDERGROUND WIRELESS RADIO LINK AND WAKE UP AT 125KHZ

Status: Assigned
Student: Alain Jansen

Problem Statement:

1. Far field communication of radio wave in soil suffers very high loss. Can some low data rate underground sensor applications meet longer range requirements? We expect to reduce loss by using radio wave at very low frequency.

2. Power management is one of the crucial issues of sensor networks, especially with underground sensor devices which are difficult to reach. How can we effectively wake up underground devices. Can very low frequency be a solution?

3. There are some available devices used in RFID and Wake-up at 125Khz. Do they meet requirements for new underground tasks?

Tasks:

There are some available device that operate at 125kHz in RFID and wake-up devices. We modify them to fit underground applications as well as new coil antennas.

1. Simulate and Design coils as antenna at 125kHz.

2. Modify available hardware of RFID and wake-up device at 125KHz.

3. Testing in soil

Reference devices: Available Wake-up devices and RFID device at 125KHz.

Work:
