UT students are going to modernize the NERF gun

The NERF gun is a harmless dart pistol, famous worldwide.

Most people are familiar with these toys due to having played with them during childhood. UT students feel that it is a shame that these toys have not aged well. That is why they are transforming the NERF gun in a workshop as part of the Creative Technology study programme on May 10th.

The members of the UT study association S.A. Proto are the leaders behind this initiative. They argue that almost all devices are connected to the Internet these days. “We are looking forward to transforming the NERF gun with a group of thirty Creative Technology students. Among other things, we will be connecting the guns to the Internet, installing an ammo counter and a red dot sight with animation, add a screen, and more.”

Transform an old-fashioned toy into a digital game

On the evening of May 10th, the students will be testing the transformed guns during a game. “The idea is to transform an old-fashioned toy into a digital game and to enable users to load games onto it, such as ‘team death match’, ‘capture the flag’, and ‘trouble in terrorist town’.”

The organization and ideas were provided by the Creative Technology students, with the aid of tutor and scientist Edwin Dertien. Dertien has previously supervised other creative workshops for students, such as the Star Wars lightsaber workshop.

The media is welcome to come take a look or even participate. The workshop will start at 2:00pm. Additional parts will be made available to enable people to build for themselves.
