On Tuesday, 9 December, FNV, AOb and WOinActie are organising a nationwide strike in response to government policies that, according to the organising parties, put higher education under pressure. The strike will take place in Amsterdam. As the University of Twente, we endorse the purpose of this action. The national budget cuts have negative consequences for educational institutions, for students and staff, and for society as a whole.
We support staff and students who wish to participate in this action. Therefore, as with previous protest actions, we apply a set of guidelines to ensure the day runs as smoothly as possible.
Guidelines for staff
- No leave required: If you wish to take part in the strike, you do not need to take a day off.
- Coordinate with your supervisor: Discuss your participation in advance. Your supervisor can help find solutions for scheduled activities. There may be compelling reasons why your presence at the university remains necessary.
- Responsibility towards students: We trust that teaching staff will ensure that students can complete their courses appropriately within the planned course period.
- Examinations will proceed: Scheduled exams and assessments will take place as planned. We trust that, if needed, an appropriate solution can be found in consultation.
Guidelines for students
- Examinations and assessments will proceed.
- No attendance requirement on 9 December, except for patient care activities and mandatory practical sessions that cannot be rescheduled or made up.
- Responsibility for missed material: Catching up on any missed course material is the student’s own responsibility.
