This year has brought many successful moments for IDS and her members. Celebrate with us as we look back at 2025 and our achievements.
PhD defences
The year started strong with two PhD defences. Dr. Shirin Azadi Kenari successfully defended her thesis "Towards a gas independent thermal flow meter" on 16 january. The next day we witnessed dr. Qihui Yu defend his thesis "Micro Coriolis Mass Flow Sensor with Large Channel Diameter by Wet Etching of Silicon". Thank you for the good years we had together and we wish you all the best in your career!
New group members
Prof. dr. ir. Mathieu Odijk made the transfer from BIOS research group to IDS research group. With him we also welcome his PhD candidates Amélie Bocquet, Dipl.-Ing. Nina Häselhoff, Aniruddha Paul and Harley Lin.
Two new PhD candidates started their research in IDS. Chang Liu and Vito Fransen will be working with Remco Wiegerink and Joost Lötters on micro coriolis. We wish all new members a succesful and wonderful time at IDS!
At the moment IDS has three open PhD positions: PhD position on physics of tunnelling devices for ultralow-power electronics, and 2x PhD position on the design and fabrication of MEMS flow sensors and microphones. We hope to welcome new members soon!
Retirement
As the group grows we also said goodbye to two members who retired this year. Tom Aarnink and prof. dr. Dirk Gravesteijn were with IDS from the beginning of the group and helped build us to what we are now. They guided and coached many PhD candidates and students with their knowledge and experience. And motivated and redirected all groupmembers with their inspiring work and motivational stories. Tom and Dirk, you will be missed in the group!
Awards
In July IDS organised the SAFE conference and welcomed research groups from Delft and Eindhoven to present and discuss their research to their peers. This is an inspiring and accessible event for students and PhD candidates to practise their networking and presentation skills. New IDS PhD candidate Nina Häselhoff won the "SAFE Best Poster award"!
MSc graduations
Four students graduated within IDS this year. Congratulations with your MSc diploma. We wish you all the best in your career.
