4TU H&T PhD Winterschool Delft

4TU H&T PhD Winterschool in Delft

In the first week of November, from 1-5th, the 4TU Phd Winterschool on Humans & Technology took place in Delft, the Netherlands.

We welcomed a great group of 45 enthusiastic PhD-students from a wide variety of EU-Universities. Students from Eindhoven, Delft, Enschede, Tilburg, Leiden, Amsterdam and even from Stockholm, Finland, Lotharingen, Bordeaux , Hannover and Edinburgh came together in the cozy surroundings of ‘the Brasserij’ in Delft.

It was good to see each other in real life after a long time of online meetings due to the Covid-pandemic. The students showed great interest, positive energy from day 1 till the very last day.

There were 5 days full of interesting keynotes, robot-tutorials, vivid panel discussions and guided group work, all focusing on the interface between Humans & AI-Technology. Topics that were addressed during the week:

‘How humans & AU can co-learn’,

‘Human AI Co-evolution’,

‘How humans and robots can work together in teams’,

‘Trust in Hybrid Intelligence’

‘Diversity & Bias in AI’.

Day 4 was a special and festive day. Dr Bernd Dudzik, our 4TU H&T PhD-student graduated and defended his thesis in Delft on the topic: Towards artificial empathic memory: accounting for the influence of personal memories in automatic affect prediction.

The PhD-students had a free afternoon that day. They were free to join the defense physically or online or had the change to visit and explore the beautiful old center of Delft.

All in all we look back at an inspiring week, full of engagement and interaction.  A week where the new generation of researchers got connected with each other, shared experiences and made friendships for life.
