NoQ - Face recognition for automated border control

The NoQ project is a project of the Dutch Government and Schiphol to allow automated border control at the Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. InĀ 2011 the first eGates were installed at Schiphol using an automated face recognition system to verify the identity of travelers using their passports. The eGate first scans the passport and extracts the digitally stored photograph. It then records a live image of the traveler using a video camera in the gate and compares the live recorded image to the digital image from the passport using automated face recognition.

The performance of the face recognition system may vary depending on the illumination, age of traveler, skin colour and many other factors. In this project, the performance of the face recognition system in the eGates is evaluated under practical conditions.
