Good news to kick off the semester after a long summer vacation!
We are happy to welcome three new colleagues to our group.
PhD candidate, Elman Ghazaei, under the supervision of Nicola Strisciuglio. Elman will be working on self-supervised learning and vision-language models (VLMs).
Camilla Spingola who received a master's degree cum laude in computer engineering from the University of Salerno in 2023. She worked on a full-time research grant on an AI-based vision system for anomaly detection along railway lines. Since 2024, she have been a PhD Student at the University of Salerno. Her main research interests include computer vision, multimodal learning, foundation models, and their lightweight adaptation for task-specific cross-modal understanding.

Daan Doeleman, who just joined our group will work on applying the concepts of data physicalization and human–data interaction that we have been developing over the past few years to a real-world healthcare workflow: the post-surgery rehabilitation of very older adults recovering after a hip fracture surgery.
Together with the Center for Geriatric Traumatology (CvGT) at the ZGT hospital group in Almelo (with Dieuwke van Dartel and Han Hegeman), he will explore how physicalization of clinical data sensed through modern sensing technologies (in this case physical activity data from MOX) can make an impact on the rehabilitation process.
