Apple ID account restriction for utwente.nl

As of April 14th, 2026, it’s no longer possible to create an Apple account with the ‘utwente.nl’ domain name. We are implementing this change to enhance safety and security.

Why is this necessary?
Apple considers these accounts to be personal. Due to GDPR/privacy legislation, we can't see who is using an account with @utwente.nl  and whether it is being used legitimately. To prevent fraud or misuse, the domain will be locked for creating new accounts.

What does this mean for you?
Existing Apple accounts created with the ‘utwente.nl’ domain name continue to work normally. You will keep full access to iCloud, App Store purchases and subscriptions. No action required.

Need access to Apple services?
If you are a new user and need Apple features such as Apple Pay for contactless payments, iCloud Mail for email, App Store downloads for apps or iCloud Drive for file storage, you can always create a personal Apple Account. For this, use a non-@utwente.nl email address, like @gmail.com or @hotmail.com accounts.
