We are happy to share that our colleague Dr. ir. Raffaele Sommese, assistant professor in the DACS group at the University of Twente, has been appointed as a member of ICANN’s Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC).
The SSAC advises the ICANN community and Board on the security and stability of the Internet’s naming and addressing systems, with a focus on DNS operations, the Root Server System, Internet number allocation, and registry and registrar services. Its work is centered on identifying systemic risks, assessing emerging threats, and providing technical guidance to improve the resilience of the global Internet infrastructure.
SSAC members are security practitioners who contribute their expertise on a voluntary basis, mainly through reports and advisories that feed into ICANN processes and broader community discussions.
Within the SSAC, Raffaele will bring his experience on DNS infrastructure resilience, Internet governance, and abuse mitigation. His appointment also reflects the ongoing involvement of DACS and the University of Twente in work that aims to make the global Internet infrastructure more robust and trustworthy.
