A new adaptive resource control mechanism for multi-hop ad-hoc networks is developed using the Request-To-Send (RTS) and Clear-To-Send (CTS) packets to deliver feedback information. With this feedback from the downstream bottleneck, the Transmission Opportunity (TXOP) limit of the upstream nodes can be controlled to balance the traffic. The proposed mechanism is modeled and evaluated using the well-known 20-sim dynamic system simulator. Experimental results show that the designed control mechanism is able to provide fair and efficient resource use, achieve fairly low queuing delay, and quickly adapt to network environmental changes.
