Over the years many different types of battery models have been developed, from high detailed electrochemical to abstract analytical models. All these models have a different application area. The electrochemical models are used by battery designers, but are impractical for modeling batteries in applications because of their detail. For this purpose, the abstract analytical models, like the Kinetic Battery Model and the diffusion model, are better suited. These models have been analyzed, and their performances for both continuous and variable loads has been compared to performance of the electro-chemical model DUALFOIL. This leads to the conclusion that the more simple Kinetic Battery Model is good enough to be used in most practical situations.
