Background
Visually impaired persons can have problems to find their way, or with the interpretation of non-verbal communication. In our research, we use the latest technology to assist blind individuals in their daily life. Our smart wearable technology helps them find their way around the city, recognize faces, and detect a smile. It does so without interfering with usual strategies (e.g. cane, detection of cars through hearing), because we convey information through vibration on the waist. Beyond research, we are working on making our technology available as a product.
