Health-Frame; A communication platform for facilitating self-management amongst community-dwelling seniors and its application for physical activity
Background and problem statement
As the ageing population is increasing, telemedicine solutions are becoming integrated in the home setting to facilitate self-management and independent living amongst older adults. Increasing the adherence to the services provided by such ICT-based solutions still remains to a big challenge. Addressing motivation, forgetfulness and other physiological factors/barriers can potentially lead to better adherence of users to the technological intervention.
In this project, the student will research and develop a digital photo-frame as illustrated above. When ideal, the photo-frame shows the images of friends and family to support the cognitive function and the mental state-mood of the elderly. To increase the adherence of the elderly user to telemedicine services, reminders and feedbacks will be pushed to the photo-frame at the appropriate moments. In the final stage of the project, the usability of the developed platform will be tested in a small trial.
