Plagiarism detection in blackboard

Ephorus logoEphorus is used to prevent and detect plagiarism. Students are less likely to commit plagiarism if they know that their work will be checked by a plagiarism detection tool, and if they do, Ephorus will let you know. The results of the check are returned to you in the Ephorus report, a concise display of the similarities between a submitted document and found sources. Ephorus searches in:sources publicly available on the Internet; the UT Ephorus database, containing all (not confidential) documents submitted earlier; scientific publications (including journals) from publishers Elsevier, Springer and Oxford University Press. Ephorus can be used within Blackboard as well as outside of Blackboard:

Use of Ephorus within Blackboard

Within a Blackboard course (or organisation) there are two ways of using the tool:

  1. An instructor can have students submit documents via an 'Ephorus assignments' (individual or group assignment) that are then checked automatically for plagiarism, resulting in a plagiarism report in the course.
  2. An instructor can also upload documents himself (under Control panel > Course tools > Ephorus assignment > My documents). Zipfiles can also be uploaded.

You can find more information in the UT Blackboard instructor manual (see Downloads and links).
Use of Ephorus outside of Blackboard

You can upload documents directly on the Ephorus website for plagiarism detection. This requires a personal acount that you can request at the contact persons listed below.
