EngD benefits for your ORGANISATION

Is your organisation dealing with a technological challenge that needs a concrete solution? An EngD trainee is a technological designer who develops complex products and processes and turns research into results that work in practice. Each programme runs for two years and combines courses at UT with an applied design project in your company.

Tailored programme

Each project is tailor-made. UT, the trainee and your organisation align the curriculum, supervision and timeline around one goal, the best possible solution for your design problem. You work with a high-potential trainee who can move between disciplines and integrate ideas into a working design. At the end, you know the person behind the result, so hiring is a natural next step.

Costs and agreements

EngD projects are co-financed by your company and the University of Twente. The trainee can be employed by your company or by the university. Together we agree on a project plan that sets scope, milestones, curriculum and supervision.

Employed by your company

If the trainee is employed by your company, the annual contribution is € 20.000 excluding VAT for education, supervision and access to UT knowledge infrastructure. Salary and employment conditions are set by your company.

Employed by the UT

If the trainee is employed by the University of Twente, the annual contribution is € 55.000 excluding VAT, which covers the trainee's salary, education, supervision and access to UT knowledge infrastructure. Employment conditions follow UT policy.

Knowledge ownership

All contract results that arise within the design project are vested in your company. Employees with the right background can also follow an EngD while working on a company-relevant design project; the same options and agreements apply.

Subsidies

Dutch government schemes support innovation, especially for SMEs established in the Netherlands. Relevant options include subsidies on practical learning, WBSO (R&D tax credit), knowledge vouchers for SMEs, and SBIR innovation in procurement. Availability and conditions depend on your situation; we are always keen to work with you to identify the options that fit your project and timeline.

An EngD for your employees

Employees with the right background can enrol and complete an EngD while working on a company-relevant design project, supported by UT experts.
