Update on global developments; take care of one another

The recent escalation of violence in Iran and the surrounding countries is also affecting our UT community, in particular colleagues and students who originate from this region. At a university where students and staff from all parts of the world come together, international events are rarely far away. For some of us, they are very close — in our thoughts, in concerns about family and friends, or in feelings of unrest and helplessness.

We realise that these developments may evoke many emotions. You may feel sadness, tension or uncertainty. You may find it harder to concentrate on your work or studies. That is entirely understandable. Especially at times like these, it is important that we look out for one another.

The University of Twente aims to be a place where everyone feels safe and supported, even when the world beyond our campus is unsettled. We stand for respect, dialogue and connection. Let us create space for conversation and treat each other with care.

If you are personally affected by the situation, you do not have to carry this alone.

  • Students can contact their study adviser.
  • Staff members can reach out to their supervisor or HR.
  • You can find additional information about support on the Global Community page.

During this period, let us pay extra attention to one another. An open conversation, a listening ear or a small gesture of understanding can make a real difference. Together, we take care of our community.
