The Master programme Conflict, Risk, and Safety (CRS) is growing in popularity among students, with enrolment having doubled since 2022. This Psychology specialisation which equips students with in-depth knowledge of conflict and crisis management, risk perception and communication, and the dynamics of risky, antisocial, and criminal behaviour reached 40 students this year.
Students learn to understand threats to citizens’ physical, psychological, and social safety, and to design interventions to address them. According to PCRS section chair Marielle Stel and master track coordinator Steven Watson, the increase in interest is driven by the programme’s focus on timely topics such as sustainability, crime, and privacy. The programme also has a strong reputation for teaching that engages and inspires students, thanks to the dedication of its teachers.
The PCRS section celebrated this milestone with a gathering of staff and students over a sustainable lunch. Their growth underlines the continued relevance of the CRS specialisation for students interested in understanding and addressing complex societal safety challenges.
