World events felt within our UT community

In a time of intense and rapidly evolving global developments, international tensions are also being felt within our University of Twente community. As a global university, with students and staff from many different countries and backgrounds, situations such as the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the war in Gaza, unrest in Iran, and recent developments concerning Venezuela are not distant events. For many in our community, these developments are personal and can have a direct impact on wellbeing and a sense of safety.

We are following these fast-moving and concerning developments around the world with great care. We are also concerned about how these global developments affect us as a university community and the environment in which we work and learn. We recognise that conflicts, instability and humanitarian crises affect people in different ways, and that members of our community may be worried about family, friends, or their home regions.

The University of Twente stands for peace, dialogue and mutual respect. We value an open and inclusive academic environment where there is room for reflection, conversation and differing perspectives, while maintaining respect for one another. UT also acknowledges the importance of support in difficult times, and of visible expressions of solidarity within our community.

If world events are affecting you, support is available. Students are encouraged to contact their study advisor, and staff members can reach out to their supervisor. More information about how UT supports its global community can be found on the Global Community page.

Together, we remain committed to caring for one another and upholding the values that define our global university community.
