UT signs partnership Special Olympics National Games

People have been working hard behind the scenes on the design of the Special Olympics Village that will rise on the University of Twente campus in June 2022. The partnership is now official, under the watchful eye of athlete and ambassador Marjolijn.

"The University of Twente is proud to host this great event. The Special Olympics National Games fits well with the mission and vision of the UT. We are a 'people-first' university; people are central, and inclusiveness is one of our important core values. We believe it is important for all groups and individuals to have access to the facilities on our campus and to the innovations realised by our scientists and students. In doing so, we hope to contribute to a more inclusive world," said University of Twente President Professor Vinod Subramaniam.

BROWNIES&DOWNIES

The signing took place at the recently opened Brownies&downieS in the Spiegel building on the UT campus. They offer people with a disadvantage on the labour market a real workplace in the hospitality industry. Normally you would find them in city centres or village centres. However, together with corporate caterer Appèl, they are also opening establishments in the education sector.

Besides the signing of the partnership, three people from the University of Twente were decorated by ambassador Marjolijn. The pin with the text 'We Are Special', which symbolises perseverance and strength, now also adorns the chest of Vinod Subramaniam.
