BlueJeans Video conferencing

BlueJeans is video communication with unlimited possibilities.

It is unique in that it allows you to link different video conferencing solutions. Regardless of whether you use Polycom, Lifesize, Cisco or software solutions like Microsoft Lync and Google Hangouts, BlueJeans brings them all together. You can also participate using a notebook, tablet or smartphone. If you cannot participate in the video call, you can still call in via a mobile or fixed line.

Use of video camera/webcam

If you want to participate in a video conference, we recommend you use a camera. Video conferencing systems (Polycom, Lifesize or Cisco) have a good-quality camera. On a notebook/tablet/mobile device, you can use the built-in webcam/camera.

For optimum quality we recommend you use an external webcam/microphone (for tablets/notebooks with USB connection or desktops).

The hardware can be bought at the Selfservice Portal. LISA depends on the actual stock.

Requests

You can request a video conference via the Selfservice Portal: https://selfservice.utwente.nl.

As an applicant, you will receive an automatically generated acknowledgement e-mail. This message lists all the information required to set up the requested video conference.

You can forward this e-mail to all the participants in the video conference. The recipients can click on the shortcut in the e-mail to participate in the video conference via image and/or sound input.

NB: Before the start of the conference, BlueJeans informs every participant on how to participate through an introductory page.

Costs

UT staff can immediately start using BlueJeans free of charge.

NB: However, the caller/user still bears the regular costs for outgoing phone calls to phone numbers.

How can I request a video conference?

There are no time limits for conference requests, so feel free to request a future conference at any time.

How can I request an urgent conference?

Complete the application form in full. Then phone or e-mail the Service Desk ICT, which will set up a conference based on our "best effort" policy. 

Note: If you want to consult with colleagues, we advise you to set up a Skype meeting via Microsoft Outlook agenda. Go to agenda => at the top is the button New Skype Meeting.

What is the maximum number of participants in a conference?

It is standard possible to invite 20 to 30 participants to a conference. This number can be increased in consultation to around 50 participants. Although we do not advise this. Depending on the type of event, it may be better to switch to an "Event" instead of a "Video Meeting".

Can I cancel a conference?

A conference is automatically cancelled past the requested date. Therefore, you do not need to manually remove the requested conference.

Can I record a conference?

Yes you can. There is a “checkbox”  for that in the online application form.
after the recording LISA will make the recording available as soon as possible,
and you will be send a online link witch you can use or distribute via mail or Canvas.

Can I call in using a mobile/fixed phone?

Yes, you can. In the application e-mail you will find a list of local phone numbers. If you choose this option, you can only participate in the conference via audio.

How can I test my configuration/set-up?

Before you enter the room where the digital conference will be held, you can check whether all the equipment is working correctly. On this screen you can also choose the audio/video input to be used by BlueJeans.

One of the participants cannot be heard properly.

Using the Bluejeans app instead off the browser solution can solve this problem, en will even give you more control/possibilities.

why should I use the Bluejeans App?

The BlueJeans app makes the entire session more stable, improves the sound quality .
It can be used on any device and any OS system.
There is no account needed,  and even software download is not necessary if not allowed by your IT department. Sessions can be joint via all common browsers.

  Where can I download the BlueJeans app?

Click on the "Meeting URL" in the confirmation e-mail and a window will appear in your web browser. In this window, click on "GET THE BLUEJEANS APP" to download the installation file. Install the app, click on "Try again" and follow the steps on the screen.

No, at this moment only employees of the University of Twente can request a BlueJeans meeting.
