Arthur Palm is a 24-year-old Computer Science master student in the University of Twente who came to Enschede in September 2015. He took a selfie and participated in the T-shirt contest with a story to tell. Find out more about his story below!
Why did you choose UT? What do you like about the University?
When I was doing the research to find the best university for me, my first idea was to look for institutions in the United States or Canada that have a more technical approach and honourable reputation. Then, when I saw the UTwente website I was tempted to look into. I saw the videos, read about the programmes and felt that here was the place to be. Despite the fact that Curacao is part of The Netherlands, I’m really enjoying the new social and cultural experiences that I’m having with Dutch people. The campus life is one of the things I like most around here.
What is the biggest difference in your current world compared to your previous world?
Here you have more responsibilities with your studies, everything is ‘up to speed’ with more assignments and more duties regarding the Master. But you also have more possibilities for integrate with other students through one of the many student associations for both cultural and sports at the university.
What’s the story behind your selfie? Can you explain why this one?
This one in particular served also as a ‘good bye’ picture, since it was taken at the airport a few minutes before my departure. Together, with my family and friends, have the idea of taking this picture also to show the support that I was receiving at the moment of my departure.
What would you like to achieve during your stay at the UT?
From my personal side, I would like to have a nice cultural experience in the Netherlands, meet new people and make new friends. From my professional side, I want to have some work experience in a Dutch company, with a part-time job during my studies or after I finish my Master.
