ITC Scholarship Loan Scheme

A number of partial scholarships combined with a partial student loan are available from the ITC Scholarship Loan Scheme, which will be awarded to applicants with a very good academic track record.

What is expected of you?

Candidates are expected to maintain a regular attendance on the course and to take part in all scheduled assessments.

Furthermore, participants are expected to conform with all the rules and regulations of this scheme as set out in the programme rules and regulations and those of the associated loan scheme.

Application requirements

Get admitted first

Application for the ITC Scholarship Loan Scheme is a procedure separate from the application for course entry at the University of Twente. Before applying for the ITC Scholarship Loan Scheme you first should apply for the ITC Master's Geo-information Science and Earth Observation through our on-line application system to become academically accepted.

Additional Requirements

Additional requirements for the application for the ITC Scholarship Loan Scheme include:

  • Residing in and being a national of a country listed in the Lower or Upper Middle-Income Countries and Territories categories (i.e. right hand two columns of the table) on the OECD approved List of Recipients of Official Development Assistance (eligible countries are listed below), except where foreign currency exchange provisions make it impossible to transfer funds to the Netherlands
  • Having completed the Bachelor’s degree from a well-acknowledged university outside the Netherlands
  • A 3.0 or higher Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) on a 4.0 scale (i.e. 75%), or
  • Upper Second Class standing or higher 
  • Standard English Language ability as per admission requirements 
  • Relevant background for the intended field of study
  • Not eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans.
  • Ability to make a personal own financial contribution (€ 13,957) at least two months before the start of the programme
  • Eligibility to take out a student loan from ITC (of € 14,341) to be paid back starting a year after graduation with the guarantee of your current employer.

Detailed Deadline Information 

Intake 2021

The application deadline for the ITC Scholarship Loan Scheme has now passed for the 2021 intake. 

We expect to launch a similar call for the 2022 intake this winter.

There are two deadlines to choose from. We recommend sending your application before the first deadline. This allows earlier notification and more time to ensure timely payment of the own contribution.

How to apply

First, you must have applied for the ITC Master's Geo-information Science and Earth Observation through the on-line application system and have received an academic acceptance letter.

If subsequently, you are interested to apply to the ITC Scholarship Loan Scheme, you will have to send the completed application form using the online system.


After receipt of your application, the additional information will be reviewed. ITC will acknowledge receipt of your application. If it is evident that you do not fulfill the minimum requirements for the ITC Scholarship Loan Scheme, you will be notified immediately.

After the dates of the deadline, a committee will make the final selection. The selection results will be announced within three weeks of the deadline.

The candidates who will be offered a scholarship will be asked to make further arrangements to cover all remaining fees and costs before 20 June 2021.


IMPORTANT NOTE: the loan can only be granted if the required loan agreement is signed by the candidates’ employer.
