Undoubtedly, the availability of energy and resources for future generations is one of the crucial concerns of mankind. Oil and gas reserves decrease, at the same time, worldwide energy consumption and the emission of greenhouse gasses increase. Energy efficient and clean conversion of fossil fuels with integrated CO2 capture, production and use of sustainable energy and resources, biomass conversion and bio-refinery are key issues for a sustainable future. Next to technological development of new materials and processes, this requires more than ever consideration and discussion from societal perspective as well. A shift to next generation energy and materials provision by sustainable use of conventional and unconventional resources to guarantee a sustainable future can only be successful when both technical aspects and social aspects are integrated and considered simultaneously.
In this context, the multidisciplinary approach of the University of Twente, that explicitly combines technical and engineering sciences with social and behavioral sciences, offers a versatile platform to educate scientists and engineers for next generation Energy and Resources and to contribute significantly to future developments in this field.
The Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) trainee follows a two-year post-Master’s designer programme at the University of Twente. In consultation with the organisation, this tailor made programme will be designed to educate trainees who are able to design high level, creative and renewing designs for complex issues with a multidisciplinary character.
The PDEng programme in Energy & Process Technology focuses on the design of technical solutions in nutrition, energy and process industry. The programme is based on the strong demand from the market, taking quality, environment and sustainability into account.
