TGS Award 2018
Call for nominees

Procedure

Nominees for the TGS award are talented and excellent UT Master degree students with the ambition to pursue a PhD. When selected, they will receive a so-called bridging grant and, together with a supervisor or professor, will start working on a full research proposal for external funding. Eligible students are in the last phase of their Master’s programme. Nominees have to fill out a form with their CV, grades, and a summary abstract of their PhD proposal. They will also need a recommendation letter from their supervisor or professor. There are always two rounds of nomination for the bridging grant (CV and abstract research proposal - deadlines 15 January and 15 September). Three candidates per round (a maximum of 6 total) will be selected by the jury. The deadline for the TGS Award (a full research proposal) is on May 1st. At the end of June, an interview day will be held in which the jury will choose the winning proposal.

Twente Graduate School organizes two professional workshops ('how to develop a research proposal' and 'how to present’) offered to all nominees before the research proposal deadline and the presentation for the jury, respectively. Each of the 6 research proposals will be sent to two external reviewers (experts in the field). The external reviews as well as the presentations and interviews with the candidates are the basis for final selection by the TGS Award jury. The jury will rank the proposals and choose the winner. The TGS Award is handed out during the Opening of the Academic Year by the Rector Magnificus.

Prize

Each of the six candidates receives a (maximum of) six-month bridging grant on the basis of AiO salary from the TGS Fund. The winner of the award additionally receives a cheque of 2,500 Euros to be spend on Doctoral Education (summer school, workshop, conference).
