Hi, my name is Paul and I’m taking the PDEng programme Robotics at the University of Twente.
The world around us is changing. Robotics is and will play an ever increasing role in our society. Where labor shifts from manual to automated processes, robots will play an ever growing role. This process is inevitable, I don’t just want to contribute to it, I want to define it. With the PDEng degree in robotics I want to put myself as first tier in multidisciplinary project with affinity in robotics.
Most of you already know the SEGWAY and nowadays the hoverboard is becoming popular. Both systems have two wheels to drive itself. In my project I want to develop a system which drives on a ball, instead of wheels. The person can sit or stand on a platform, which balances on a ball. Three omniwheels make contact with the ball. By manipulation of the omniwheels the person should remain stable on the system (read not fall from).
THE FLEXIBILITY THE UNIVERSITY OF TWENTE PROVIDES TO PURSUE MY PDENG IS PHENOMENAL!
I work at a company, and do the PDEng partime. The flexibility the University of Twente provides to pursue my PDEng is phenomenal! In consultation with the university you can pick the courses which relate to the project, such that you do not only learn the theory, but can also apply the theory to your project.
“I have consciously chosen the PDEng because a PhD was too science-driven; I'd rather work at a high level for a company on a great assignment. Through my master project I actually got familiar with the PDEng. At my Master's project I have made the start of my current design and during my PDEng programme I develop the design further.
In addition to the technical skills I learn, I learned a lot of practical knowledge, such as how to design. Through the PDEng, I got more feeling with how designing works in practice. During your Master assignment you work on a design, whereas after finishing the PDEng you actually CAN design.”
