Year 2

Social science research methods (compulsory) 

Advanced Social Science Research Methods 15 EC

(In the future this course will be taught as part of the IGS Research Master; for as long as this is not the case students will take a selection of methods courses from the NIG programme or other course offerings from the institution where the student also takes the international research orientation). The supervisor and student submit a proposal for approval to the IoG Programme Leader.

Disciplinary Focus 2

In-depth training in disciplinary domain 10 EC

Here either existing courses from one of the four associated master programs or a national research school in the relevant field may be selected. The focus modules offer opportunities for rotation.

International research orientation (15 EC)

Here students spend a quartile abroad and take courses in a relevant MA programme or a series of courses in an international research school or take a research focused internship in a university or research institute abroad research

Scientific writing (5 EC)

Introduction to scientific writing (from a native speaker)

Research proposal (**)

To be sent to organizations like NWO Onderzoekstalent 15 EC

Supervision by dissertation supervisor + second supervisor (+ possible others)

Year 3

  • Development of publication plan and training programme, based on research proposal (dissertation on articles in ISI journals)
  • Research and Thesis Development
  • Presentation of paper at (national) conference or workshop
