MASTER OF SCIENCE PHASE

FIRST AND SECOND YEAR

During the two-year Master’s programme, you will take a specific subset of courses within the Master of Science in Applied Physics and complete a Master’s thesis.

Together with your supervisor, you will decide what courses to take. Logically, you already take courses offered by the research group of your supervisor. For more information, please contact the programme leader.

The recommended/preferred Master's route for the TGS programme in Fluid Physics is the Master of Science in Applied Physics

OTHER ROUTES

For individually tailored routes via other UT Master's programmes, you may be expected to include as electives courses from the Master's in Applied Physics. The courses may be agreed upon with the programme leader and/or the PhD supervisor or professor. MASTER'S PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

There are several things you can do to prequalify yourself during the Master’s. The four basic ingredients for your tailor-made programme are:

  • elective courses that fit your intended PhD programme
  • research honours programme, intended for the best ten percent of the Master’s students to fine-tune your research skills
  • international research orientation, preferably a research internship at a partner research institute abroad
  • writing a research proposal

During the first year of your chosen Master’s programme, you will take several elective courses to prepare yourself for a PhD trajectory. You can also apply for the research honours programme to further prequalify yourself and you are expected to do a research internship abroad at a partner institute.

The final step is working towards a research proposal during your Master’s thesis. Depending on the programme and the agreements you have with your supervisor, you can either write a research proposal based on your Master’s thesis or instead of your Master’s thesis. This research proposal can serve as your entry for the TGS award.
