Name: DIana
Country of origin: Mexico
Programme: sustainable energy technology (MSc)
Hello, my name is Diana, and I am currently in my second year of the Master in Sustainable Energy Technology (SET). This master's focuses on preparing students who can deal with, help, and support the energy transition by considering the technological, social, and economic aspects.
I studied for my bachelor's in Toluca, Estado de México, at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México. As soon as I finished it, I started looking for places to study for my master's, but due to Corona, I had to wait one more year. The University of Twente was not my first choice, it suddenly appeared and convinced me through its support during the application process, its vision of what a SET should be, and its curricula… everything suited me, and I decided to go for it. It was not a fast process, it takes time, but there are a lot of people that is always there to support you: students, UT staff, UT teachers, etc., and if you really want it, you will make it possible, just like me. I know that one of the most worrying issues while trying to study abroad is how to fund our studies, but the UT, the Netherlands and Latin governments, and many other institutions can support us on this road, so do not give up and keep trying. Do not forget that we are not alone.
Studying at the University of twente
The University of Twente has left me more than a Master, it allowed me to live in a beautiful country like the Netherlands, it helped me improve my self-confidence and realize I can do more than just a study, and it gave me friends for life (Mexican and Internationals). It lets me see that Latins are everywhere and that we have an amazing potential to do whatever we want, and also, the opportunity to work with an amazing team like the International Students Team (IST) to connect, support and solve questions of those who want to go for more.
Of course, there are always things that can be improved, nothing is perfect, and is something to bear in mind. However, the happiness I feel while living in a quiet and friendly city like Enschede, studying for my master's (although I did not like all the courses), and getting to know who I want to be, definitely pay off. If you are feeling like going beyond the unknown, and have the University in Twente in mind, do not hesitate to contact me and ask for more pieces of advice or more information. Hope to see your message soon!
