As an educational psychologist, Anneloes designs effective learning environments for professionals.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Twente?
I used to be wild about the Sims computer games, and online games like World of Goo. I was amazed at how edutainment motivated me to learn the toughest things. When I discovered the Master’s programme in Instruction, Learning & Development, I knew in a moment it was for me. I saw myself learning all about so-called game flow – and besides that, I wanted to be able to do something that would be useful and meaningful in real life. Thanks to the UT’s focus on solution designing and practical application, I am well equipped to develop e-learning at Bright Alley.
What are your activities within the organization?
Our aim is to design an appealing, effective learning environment for every learning challenge. We spend a lot of time consulting as a team: the customer, the target group, the educational consultant, the graphic designer and the project manager. As an educational psychologist, my main job is to make sure we stay close to the needs of the customer and the target group. What motivates them? How can we make the learning material interesting and useful? What is the predominant learning culture within their organization and how will e-learning fit in?
How much of the knowledge you gained during your studies do you use in your current work?
During my Bachelor’s programme, I really got to know the ins and outs of target groups. Think of target group analyses – regarding both students, colleagues and companies. Now, having completed my Master’s, my focus as an educational psychologist is on target group development. Is there a learning or behavioural problem? What (learning) results are expected? Under which conditions? Which learning strategies are relevant?
What are your ambitions for the future?
Our projects are relatively short, from a few weeks to a couple of months. It is a great way to gain a lot of experience in a short time. As a team, we always start out with really exciting creative brainstorming sessions, while keeping our eyes on the learning goal. We also offer workshops in designing e-learning and advise businesses on e-learning. I would like to grow in those last areas, especially.
