Technology, Values and Innovation is a profile within the Master's programme Philosophy of Science, Technology and Society.
This profile focuses on normative, evaluative and critical issues in relation to technology and society. The Technology, Values and Innovation Profile contains two courses:
- Technology and the quality of life
- Technology and responsible innovation
The central theme in this profile is how technology can be developed and used in an ethical way, what good technology is, and how both society and engineering should be organized to produce technology that is ethically and politically acceptable. In this profile you will also focus on the governance of responsible innovation. The normative focus of the profile is reflected in its emphasis on public and private values in relation to individuals and society: it evaluates or prescribes directions for the development of technology according to these values.

In the first semester of the second year of the Philosophy of Science, Technology and Society programme at the University of Twente, you will take three mandatory courses (in quartile one) and two profile-related deepening courses (in quartile two). The Masterlab 1 (5 ECs) course will be taken in parallel to the two profile-related courses.
