My name is Marjon Versteeg, I’m 26 years old and I’m currently working at Menzis Zorgkantoren. I studied the bachelor nursing at Saxion University of Applied Sciences. I started working as a district nurse when I finished my study. District nursing was, and still is an interesting challenge, but I knew there was more to be discovered and learned.
Why I looked for a master
I wanted to combine my practical knowledge with policy, quality, legislation and/or research in my future job. The study nursing and my minimal professional experience would be insufficient enough to reach such as position. This was my main motivation to look for a master that combines healthcare, legislation and innovation. The master Health Sciences offered me this unique combination.
About the pre-master & master Health Sciences
I started my pre master six months after my graduation. The pre master mainly focusses on the (basic) knowledge of conducting research. This knowledge was essentials for the master, which wasn’t covered during my bachelor. I gained a lot of insights about innovation, implementation, management and conducting research during my Masters. My master thesis was about medicine usage of elderly people in nursing homes.
Currently I am working as an advisor on healthcare at Menzis Zorgkantoren. Two main focus points in this position are the development of (purchase) policy for long term care, and advising and mediation in client cases.
My professional experience as a district nurse is elementary in my daily job, that’s why I am still working as a (part time) district nurse. I couldn’t do my job without the master Health Sciences: the gained knowledge and insights on quality care: the implementation and market function of healthcare are daily present in my job.
