The University of Twente applies two types of student tuition fees. Find out which fee is right for your situation.

Tuition fees are adjusted annually on the basis of the Dutch Consumer Price Index and an academic year is the annual period of sessions beginning in September and ending in June.

Statutory tuition fee (EU/EEA nationals) in the Netherlands

If you are a national of an EU/EEA country, it is likely you need to pay the so-called ‘statutory tuition fee’. This fee is determined and subsidised by the Dutch government. The statutory tuition fee applies to most, but not all students from EU/EEA countries and/or master’s (also see ‘Institutional tuition fee’). Visit the website of Student Services for detailed payment conditions

In the Netherlands, the statutory tuition fees for the academic year 2021-2022 are:

The rates for 2021-2022 include a one-time discount due to Covid-19

Euro 1,084 per year for a master’s. Each (academic) year the tuition fee will be adjusted.

Institutional tuition fee (non-eu/Eea nationals)

Dutch universities do not receive government funding for non-EU/EEA students. Therefore, except for the pre-master's, non-EEA students need to pay higher fees. Visit the website of Student Services for detailed payment conditions

The University of Twente applies the following institutional fees for the academic year 2021-2022:

Tuition fee for pre-master's with divergent number of EC’s

To follow a pre-master's you have to pay an amount per EC. The total amount is based on the number of EC’s from your pre-master's.

Two examples

Your pre-master's is 30 EC and you will start in the academic year 2020-2021. You will pay € 35.75 x 30 EC = € 1,071.60
Your pre-master's is 45 EC and you will start in the academic year 2021-2022. You will pay € 18.07 x 45 EC = €    813.15. This includes a one-time discount due to Covid-19

Applying for a scholarship?

If you apply for a scholarship for a two- or three-year course, bear in mind that the institutional tuition fees for the following year are not the same. The fees for the subsequent years increase yearly and are therefore higher than year 1. Take this into account when applying for a scholarship. This can prevent you from having to co-finance the difference in tuition fees for the following years.

Visit the website of Student Services for the tuition fees of the following years.
