The research teams at the departments that jointly run the programme are highly rated and even regarded as world leaders in certain areas of research. The Pedagogics and Educational Sciences research programme has obtained excellent marks for quality, productivity, relevance and vitality. An assessment committee concluded that Twente’s approach deserves recognition as an original and promising way of delivering research that responds to real-life questions that are seldom answered by traditional, monodisciplinary approaches.
Every two years a survey is administered to the Master´s alumni of every university in the Netherlands, in which they are asked to comment on their current jobs and on the Master´s programmes they followed. Below is a selection of some of the most exciting results of the latest survey.

In a range of courses throughout the programme, you will apply your knowledge in practice by addressing real-life educational issues. This will enable you to see newly acquired educational theories at work in practice and apply them to real-life situations.
The programme teaches you how to engage in the systematic analysis of problems in education and training and how to design sound, workable solutions to these problems. To do so, you first need to obtain a clear picture of the issue at hand. Your research will primarily be geared towards improving design processes for organizing learning pathways, the design of media applications, the evaluation of real-life situations or the development of education policy. As an EST graduate you will be able to systematically frame, fill in, augment, evaluate, and implement designs to support learning environments in various education and training contexts.
In our teaching we also focus on the role of technology in learning processes. We examine how information technology in the form of simulations, serious games and interactive apps can be integrated into learning environments. We also ask searching questions about the role of new media in workplace learning.

The programme gives you the freedom to design your own curriculum to a large degree. This includes the opportunity to select courses from other Master’s programmes (Psychology and/or Human Resources Management).
