INDEPENDENT EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT, SPECIALIZED IN ACCREDITATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION
In 1989 I finished my studies Educational Sciences at Twente University. A couple of years after graduating I started working as a self employed educationalist. In the beginning I worked for different organisations in professional education (Kenniscentra Beroepsonderwijs Bedrijfsleven). Since 2002 I work in higher eduction. My employers are the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO) and many different Schools for Higher Education (Hogescholen).
Many times I have noticed that former Educational Science and Technology students are valued in a very positive way by people in the field. Some time ago when I told someone I studied in Twente they said "so you're a real one!".
WHAT DOES YOUR WORK INVOLVE?
In my work it is important to be able to internalize new content and new methods in an efficient way. I also have to be able to work together with many different people and therefore have to adjust to new circumstances all the time. In a short period I have to get a clear picture of what my employer expects me to do and subsequently act upon this. At Educational Science and Technology I have learned to analyse an educational problem thoroughly before rushing into a solution. This way of acting is still very useful. However, sometimes an employer just wants a certain solution. In practice it is not always possible to do things "the royal way". I think it is important for future educationalists to be ware of this.
Altogether I can say that my education in Twente has been (and still is) very useful for me as an educationalist. I enjoy working in higher education and expect to be doing this for a long time to come.
