It may seem challenging at first, but once you get the hang of it, it can be one of the most fulfilling experiences.

Hello! My name is Margarita Barlampa, I am 29 years old, and I come from a beautiful small Greek island called Spetses. I am in my 2nd-year in the Master’s program, Business Information Technology (BIT). I chose to pursue my Master’s program at the University of Twente for hands-on education, its campus facilities, and the international environment.

Why the University of Twente?

There is a plethora of reasons regarding why choosing the University of Twente. First of all, there is a strong collaboration between the university and the corporate sector. There are various fairs and opportunities that will allow you to either work closely with a company or start your own. It is not a surprise that the University of Twente holds the title of “Most entrepreneurial university in the Netherlands”. In addition, you have modern facilities and labs, ready to accommodate students’ and researchers’ needs. No matter what your area is, there will be a fully equipped space for you.

It is amazing how beautiful the campus is, with its many green areas, huge trees, and water elements. No matter the season, there is something new to admire. During spring and summer, there is nothing better than grabbing your lunch and enjoying it on the green grass or next to the Torentje van Drienerlo, while the swans and ducks swim lazily a few meters away from you. During autumn, you get mesmerized by the trees and how their leaves go from green to various shades of yellow and red.

If all that is not enough for you, you will also become a member of an international community, with the opportunity to expand your social circle and get to know new people and cultures. All you have to do is be open-minded and willing to share your story. There is nothing better than exchange experiences while sharing new recipes.

LIVING IN THE NETHERLANDS

Considering everyday life, Ι couldn’t imagine that I would enjoy cycling that much, especially due to the sometimes harsh weather conditions. But, once you download the apps “Buienradar” and “Buienalarm”, equip yourself with waterproof clothing, and a trusty bike, the weather stops being intimidating, and trust me, you get used to it fast. Plus, it can’t rain all the time. That said, if someone still feels uncomfortable riding a bike, there is the option of public transportation. I have never seen a bus arriving on time before and the bus drivers being so cheerful. Don’t forget to greet them when embarking and disembarking the vehicle. But there is something that can be a bit dangerous: stroopwafels and stroopkoeken! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
