Career perspectives

Plan an online meet-up with a student

As a graduate of the Master’s in Business Administration, specialised in Purchasing & Supply Management, you will have a lot of exciting opportunities on the job market. You can go to work as a purchasing manager, or a Chief Procurement Officer (CPO), either for a small to medium-sized enterprise, a large multinational, or an (inter)national governmental body, to name just a few options. You can also start up your own business, like some of our former students did. Or you can opt to further develop yourself by continuing with an EngD- or PhD programme.

Type of degree

When you have completed this Master's with the specialisation in Purchasing & Supply Management, you will receive a Master’s degree in Business Administration and the title Master of Science (MSc). Your specialisation will be mentioned specifically on your diploma supplement, highlighting your specialised knowledge and skills in Purchasing & Supply Management

UT alumni with this specialisation currently work in various positions and organisations, for example:
  • Software Procurement Specialist at Volkswagen AG
  • Green CPO at Riwald Recycling
  • Purchaser at ASML
  • Cognitive Procurement Consultant at IBM

Job opportunities

As a graduate specialised in Purchasing & Supply Management, you will be equipped to enter any area of business administration, not just those directly related to procurement and supply management. Whatever combination of courses you choose, you and your colleagues or employer will benefit from a broad understanding of business and management, while your specialist knowledge will make you stand out and enable you to add value in a way no other colleagues can.

Examples of jobs you could pursue include purchasing manager, buyer agent, supply chain manager, strategic sourcing director or (e-)procurement manager. Companies and public sector/healthcare organisations alike recognise the strategic impact of purchasing on their performance and societal impact: they exist by selling or serving, but earn a profit by buying. Salaries in this field are growing disproportionately, with both governments and companies engaging in a war for academically trained purchasing talent.

UT alumni with this specialisation currently work in various positions and organisations. For example:
  • Government Trainee at Ministry of General Affairs
  • Business Analyst at ABN AMRO MeesPierson
  • Commercial Account Executive in Africa at Datadog
  • Business Consultant Trainee at CAPE Group

Continue as a researcher: obtain a PhD

Instead of pursuing a professional career right away after completing your Master’s degree, you can opt to follow a PhD programme at Twente Graduate School (TGS). This involves spending four years studying a particular research area in-depth at one of our research institutes. Obtaining your PhD earns you the title of Doctor (Dr).

Interested in doing a PhD? You can check below if there are any vacancies. If not, you can also send in an open application.
