Required documents for admission

Several of the documents below are very often necessary to complete your application. Which documents you need exactly depends upon your nationality, your personal situation as well as the study programme. Our application systems also tells you which documents you need to upload, You can also check this summary of documents which gives you a good indication which documents you'll need (see step 5).

The following documents serve as examples of the files that we require from students who wish to enter the admission process within the Osiris application. Without the necessary documents the application will not be processed or rejected.

You can always apply even when you still have to graduate, please be aware that you need to be graduated before the start of the academic year.

Passport

Instructions: 
Please upload a clear copy (in PDF format) of the personal pages of your International passport, your ID-card (European Union students only) or a copy of your birth certificate in the original language and translated in English or Dutch. Please make sure that your city of birth is clearly mentioned in English on the identity document as this is a requirement for the verification of your personal details.

Note: if you have multiple nationalities and you want those registered please also upload the identity documents of your other nationalities. The University of Twente will only register the nationalities of the uploaded identity documents.

Reason why:
Your upload will be used to verify your personal details. Furthermore, the information will be used to make sure your name and date of birth on your diploma(s) correspond with the personal pages of your passport/id card/birth certificate. So if your personal details are not identical on both passport and educational documents please upload an official document with explanation.

Example:


Bachelor's Degree

Instructions: 
Please upload your official (provisional) Bachelor certificate in original language and translated in English or Dutch. If the original document is in English, Dutch or German you do not have to upload a translation.

You can always apply, even when you still have to complete your Bachelor's degree. Please make sure your certificate includes your full name, date of birth, official name of your diploma and institution’s name and logo.

Reason why:
Your upload will be used to verify if you have obtained your Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree at a recognized higher education institution. Furthermore, your diploma will be used to assess the level of your education, as each country has a different educational system.

Bachelor's Transcript of Records

Instructions: 
Please upload a copy of your official final transcript of records if you already passed your Bachelor's degree. Or upload a most recent transcript of records if you still have to pass your Bachelor's degree. Please upload the document in the original language and translated in English or Dutch. If the original document is in English, Dutch or German you do not have to upload a translation.

Please make sure your transcript of records includes your full name, date of birth, official name of your diploma and institution’s name and logo. If you transcript consists of multiple documents, please combine these documents into one single PDF document in chronological order.

Reason why:
Your upload will be used to assess the grades that you have obtained during your study. Furthermore, the upload will be used to gain more insight into the courses of your programme and the length of your previous degree.

Additional Degree

Instructions:
Please upload your official (provisional) additional Bachelor's or Master's certificate in original language and translated in English or Dutch. If the original document is in English, Dutch or German you do not have to upload a translation.

You can always apply, even when you still have to complete your additional degree. Please make sure your certificate includes your full name, date of birth, official name of your diploma and institution’s name and logo.

Reason why:
Your upload will be used to verify if you have obtained an additional Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at a recognized higher education institution. Furthermore, your diploma will be used to assess the level of your education, as each country has a different educational system.

Additional Transcript of Records

Instructions: 
Please upload a copy of your official final transcript of records if you already passed your additional degree. Or upload a most recent transcript of records if you still have to pass your additional degree. Please upload the document in the original language and translated in English or Dutch. If the original document is in English, Dutch or German you do not have to upload a translation.

Your upload will be used to assess the grades that you have obtained during your additional study. Furthermore, the upload will be used to gain more insight into the courses of your programme and the length of your previous degree(s).

Example:

English Language Test: IELTS

Instructions:
Please make sure to upload a clear copy of the official test result, your ‘test report form number’ must be clearly readable. We do not accept a print screen from the online result. Please be aware that we will use this information to access your data using the IELTS database.

All students need proof of sufficient mastery of the English language, to be proven by the official test score document of the Academic IELTS (overall band score of at least 6.5). Certificates older than two years are not considered for admission.

Please note that if you are from an English speaking country in Africa (e.g. Nigeria, Ghana), you need to take one of the internationally recognised English language tests (IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge CAE-C).

Reason why:
Every international student applying for a Master’s programme have to provide the University of Twente proof of sufficient mastery of the English language. You can find the specific language requirements and options how to meet this requirement here.

English Language Test: TOEFL

Instructions:
Please make sure to upload a clear copy of the official test result. We do not accept a print screen from the online result.

All students need proof of sufficient mastery of the English language, to be proven by the official document of the TOEFL iBT (overall score of at least 90). Certificates older than two years are not considered for admission.

Please note that if you are from an English speaking country in Africa (e.g. Nigeria, Ghana), you need to take one of the internationally recognised English language tests (IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge CAE-C).

Reason why:
Every international student applying for a Master’s programme have to provide the University of Twente proof of sufficient mastery of the English language. You can find the specific language requirements and options how to meet this requirement here.

Example:

English Language Test: Cambridge

Instructions:

Please make sure to upload a clear copy of the following two documents:

  1. official test result
  2. document with your (does not have to be an official one):
    - Candidate's ID number, this should be 3 letters and 6 numbers e.g. EPA123456
    - Candidate's secret number, this should be 4 digits.

We do not accept a print screen from the online result. Please be aware that we will use this information to access your data using the CIE Direct Site (database). As stated on the Cambridge website: “Candidates receive their ID number and secret number with their confirmation of entry for the exam. If candidates do not know these details, they should contact their centre.”

All students need proof of sufficient mastery of the English language, to be proven by the official Cambridge CAE-C (CPE) document. 

Please note that if you are from an English speaking country in Africa (e.g. Nigeria, Ghana), you need to take one of the internationally recognised English language tests (IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge CAE/CPE).

Abstract

Instructions:
Please upload the abstract of your thesis belonging to your degree. If you have not yet completed your thesis, please indicate in the temporary version of your abstract the following points: subject, research design and the probable outcome / conclusion. If you do not have a thesis, please upload a document explaining why a thesis is not available.

Your abstract will be used to gain more insight into the specific field that you’ve written your thesis about. 

Motivation Letter

Instructions:
Please upload your motivation letter in English (PDF file). Your motivation may contain several subjects, such as a clear motivation of goals and a motivation for taking the Master's programme of choice.

Reason why:
Your upload will be used to assess your motivation and specific goals for entering the University of Twente.

CV

Instructions:
Please upload your CV in English, you can use the format from Europass if you find this helpful. On the Europass website are also examples.

Reason why:
Your CV will be used to gain more insight into your education, your professional career and your extracurricular activities.

Course Descriptions

Instructions:
Please upload course descriptions of your previous degree programme(s). Each description should include:

- The title (the same as in the transcript of records)
- A course summary (a brief description of the main areas that are covered during the course). 
- The books that you have used during the courses. This applies only to courses relevant for your chosen programme at the University of Twente. Please keep in mind that we do not accept an upload of your transcript of records.

The admission committee will assess your upload to gain more insight into your specific knowledge and/or skills.

GMAT or GRE

Instructions:
Please upload your official GMAT/GRE score report (only for Business Administration & Industrial Engineering and Management).

The results of the GRE and GMAT are used to assess specific skills and knowledge, such as intergrated reasoning and analytical writing.

Portfolio

Instructions:
Please upload your portfolio (only for the Master Industrial Design and Engineering). A portfolio is a collection of your (design) work samples thus far, showing your work as a designer. It can show the product design process from the sketches in the beginning to the final concept by using drawings, photos and/or images. It should show a variety of skills, development and experiences and should show why you are suitable for the Master's programme Industrial Design Engineering

Reason why:
The portfolio is a mandatory requirement for admission to the Master's programme Industrial Design Engineering.

Financial Statement

Instructions:
Please keep in mind that you are required to use Euros (€) to indicate your expenses and income. The financial statement has different formats, so the example given might not be the form you will see in the questionnaire.  

Visit our tuition fees website for information on how much the institutional and statutory tuition fees are and which fee applies to you or the programme of your choice. Please note that each (academic) year the tuition fees will be adjusted due to the annual indexation

In addition to a budget for tuition fees, you will also need a budget for housing, day-to-day expenses and costs may also incur for insurance and a visa application. An overview of additional costs can be found here.
