About the course

River Flow Processes introduces the processes that govern the hydrodynamic and morphological behaviour of rivers. You will learn how to describe these processes and how to use that understanding to interpret laboratory experiments, field observations and results of numerical models. Topics include turbulence, roughness, sediment transport, river bedforms, local scour around structures, and the interpretation of hydrodynamic and morphodynamic data.

The course is especially relevant for professionals who want to strengthen their understanding of river hydraulics and sediment dynamics in order to better assess models, interpret hydrodynamic data and support engineering decisions in river systems.

Understanding river flow processes is essential for effective river management, hydraulic design and decision making. Rivers are dynamic systems in which flow, turbulence, sediment transport and bed morphology continuously interact.
