What are the conditions?

The conditions for writing a bachelor/ master essay or graduation paper abroad differ per study programme. Most faculties have specific regulations so please check with your faculty contact person.

  • You are generally required to have fulfilled the prerequisites of the minor/ internship/ graduation assignment (as mentioned in the Education and Examination Regulations (EER), if applicable)
  • Travelling is only allowed to safe countries (green and yellow areas at NederlandWereldWijd.) If you do travel to an unsafe region (orange and red areas), please be aware you are no longer eligible for a scholarship. Please visit What to Arrange for more information.

How can I find an assignment?

You may wish to do your graduation assignment at an international company or one of UT’s partner universities abroad (for example, research in a laboratory.)

Your faculty contact person can advise you about the content of your assignment. It can take from six months to a year to find a suitable assignment abroad. Contact your study programme's Graduation Coordinator and/or Internship Coordinator as soon as possible.

What are the steps to take?

Arranging a graduation assignment abroad may take six to 12 months. It is important to contact your study programme's Graduation Coordinator and/or Internship Coordinator as soon as possible to discuss your plans.

As well as checking your study programme's requirements and preconditions, other arrangements need to be carefully looked at, such as agreements, insurance, visas and funding.

Registration is necessary to apply for a scholarship, for UT travel insurance coverage and the emergency abroad service. To find out more, visit What to Arrange. 

Are there scholarships available?

You may be eligible to receive a scholarship if you do your graduation assignment abroad. There are scholarships available for graduations both within and outside the EU.
