Depending on your result of the decision tool, you are exempt from providing the language certificates if you meet the requirements as indicated in the country list below. You will have to provide proof of the requirements: secondary school diploma and transcript of records in the original language and officially translated into English or Dutch. If you do not fall into this category, please see our language certificates.

You have had English as a subject up until your final year and you studied the subject for the last two years of your secondary education.

Leaving Certificate Established (LCE):
- The LC has been obtained in at least 6 Leaving Certificate Established Subjects.
- The student got at least a result of grade 5 at Higher Level for at least 2 subjects. These subjects should be (applied) mathematics and one elective compulsory subject, such as physics, chemistry, and/or biology.
- The student got at least a result of grade 6 at Ordinary Level or grade 7 at Higher Level for the other 4 subjects. English being mandatory and three other elective compulsory subject(s), such as physics, chemistry, and/or biology.
- A minimum of 350 CAO points have been achieved.
Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP):
- At least 6 subjects and the Link Modules have been passed.
- The student got at least a result of grade 5 at Higher Level for at least 2 subjects. These subjects should be (applied) mathematics and one elective compulsory subject, such as physics, chemistry, and/or biology.
- The student got at least a result of grade 6 at Ordinary Level or grade 7 at Higher Level for the other 4 subjects. English being mandatory and three other elective compulsory subject(s), such as physics, chemistry, and/or biology.

English Language Certificates
In case you need to provide a language certificate, please upload one of the certificates as mentioned below. Only these internationally recognised certificates will be accepted. Without a valid certificate, your application cannot be processed.
- The certificate cannot be older than two years at the moment of reviewal. Since your application will not be reviewed immediately, please ensure that your certificate remains valid for at least one month after submitting your application to Mobility Online.
- An overall band score of at least 6.0 with a minimum score on each section of at least 5.5.
The IELTS Online test, IELTS Indicator test, and IELTS General Training are not accepted by the University of Twente.- The certificate cannot be older than two years at the moment of reviewal. Since your application will not be reviewed immediately, please ensure that your certificate remains valid for at least one month after submitting your application to Mobility Online.
- An overall score of 80 with a minimum score on each section of at least 18.
The University of Twente does not accept the MyBest scores of the TOEFL test.
In case the language centre is closed, due to unsafe situations, and you cannot take a regular language test, you are allowed to take the TOEFL iBT (Special) Home Edition test for the September 2025 intake.- Formerly known as; Cambridge English Advanced (CAE).
- Obtained with an overall score of at least 169 and a minimum score on each section of at least 162.The Cambridge online test is not accepted by the University of Twente.

Only the standard PTE Academic test is accepted. The PTE Core and PTE Academic Online are not accepted by the University of Twente.
