Are you the next ATLAS student?
1. Agile mind and attitude
We look for students with an agile mind and attitude, who enjoy being stretched by unexpected challenges.
In the ATLAS programme you will get a chance to apply the knowledge you gain during classes when tackling multidisciplinary projects presented by external real-world clients. In the past, ATLAS students have worked with the local municipality, sports clubs and healthcare professionals. Projects are the basis for your learning and make up about one third of the curriculum. This approach means you have to be flexible, creative and willing to face – and overcome – unexpected challenges. Get more insights on how students experience the project work at ATLAS on our Projects page.
2. High Tech Human Touch
We combine Technology and Engineering with Social Sciences.
University College Twente offers a unique English-taught Bachelor’s programme that combines technology and society. Why? The challenges we face today are too complex for solutions that are only technological or only socially oriented. Technology has penetrated almost every part of our daily lives. Yet only few people have more than a very basic understanding of technology, let alone understand it well enough to design relevant solutions or make well-informed decisions. With a curriculum firmly based in science, mathematics, engineering and social sciences, ATLAS is aimed at preparing you to be a new kind of engineer. Our goal is to develop engineers who are socially engaged and inspired by technology. As a student at our university college, you will not only familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of technology, you will also learn to apply technical solutions to create change for people living in our world. 3. student and staff Community
We are an on-campus community where students and staff from all over the world study, work and live together 24/7.
At UCT, learning starts and ends with you as an individual student, while you will do most of the work in close collaboration with fellow students. We are very strong believers in collaborative learning. Most of our classes are organized so as to encourage group interaction and a cooperative exploration among students and academic staff – all coming from various fields of expertise. Working in teams guarantees you will get immediate feedback from your peers, which will speed up your learning. Rather than instructing you, our tutors, advisers and mentors will guide you through the process of learning. Taking responsibility for a team effort and getting things organized is also an important aspect of your professional development. Learn more about the type of guidance you will get here from academic staff or check out who the academic staff is.
4. Self-designed learning
Our self-designed, self-regulated learning concept means no fixed courses, no conventional exams, no grades.
Imagine following an educational programme designed almost entirely by you. Our educational philosophy here at University College Twente is built on the premise that as a student you yourself should be at the centre of your own learning and personal development. In contrast to traditional education with its pre-designed curricula, we believe that one shape does not fit all. It is your responsibility to shape your own educational path by building on your multiple talents. We are confident that you can do it. Our job is to help you make it happen! 5. personal development
Our goal is not just to transfer knowledge but to develop personalities.
At University College Twente you get to go beyond the curriculum, spending 10% of your time on an individual learning project of your choice. We call it Personal Pursuit. Through the Personal Pursuit programme, we encourage you to follow your passion, try new things or gain more depth in a subject of your interest. You can head off in any direction, as long as it is relevant to your own development. In the past, students have spent their Personal Pursuit time mastering musical instruments, spending time in Russia learning the language and teaching children to play field hockey. The wide range of Personal Pursuits adds a unique flavour to each group of students. Read more about how you can go beyond the curriculum to pursue your passion.
Our international profile will also contribute directly to your personal development. The ATLAS programme is taught entirely in English. Also, we actively encourage learning through multicultural experiences by attracting a very diverse and international student population. In order to further broaden your horizons, we encourage you to use the fourth semester to study at one of our partner universities abroad. You can choose from study destinations in Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, Finland, Austria, Germany and other countries.
