Open days @UCT Introducing Students to ATLAS

March 16 and 17, the open days took place again. The open days are university-wide organized to provide prospective students with the information they need to choose for a bachelor program. But at University College Twente (UCT) we do it just a bit differently, just like the ATLAS program is nothing like other bachelor programs.

Prospective students and their parents start their day with writing a Personal Development Plan (PDP) based on the questions they have about ATLAS. This is to give them an idea of how students at UCT start their semester; with thinking about what they want to learn. Three rounds of informing workshops help in answering all questions about topics including the curriculum, the unique assessment methods, the teaching methods, the experiences of a new student, the content of the program, and the possibilities after ATLAS.

The workshops also provided some insight into the way UCT is teaching its students; each session is interactive, involves problem-solving to some degree, and there is always room for discussion or questions. After the workshops, there was some time for reflection: Were all questions answered? Did other questions come up? Reflecting and evaluating is also an important part of the ATLAS program. At the end of every semester, students are required to write a self-evaluation report in which they reflect on what they learned and whether they achieved their goals.

During the UCT open days, prospective students and parents get a glimpse of what it is like to be an ATLAS student by experiencing the way of teaching and learning, instead of solely getting information. Therefore, it is a great opportunity to find out whether UCT and your interests are a match. The next open days will take place in November again. If you can't make it to the Open Days, you can also consider watching one of our Webinars!
