A new year, a new class Welcome class of 2020!

As the new semester starts, ATLAS welcomes the class of 2020 into the fold, about 50 new students. I decided to check up with them, and see what they're thinking after their first official days.

Leonie Krab, semester coordinator, took a moment to describe the first semester:

"Semester 1, "Humans & Movement", has two functions: adaptation and orientation. Students adapt to living on campus in a new environment, and they adapt to our academic programme. On top of that, they learn to become a self-directed learner and to learn for understanding. They also get an understanding of commonalities and differences among three broad scientific domains (social sciences, natural sciences, and mathematics)."

In earlier years, projects made under this theme have occasionally made it to conferences and have always been interesting. An example of such a project would be the "Labyrinth", which exhibited at the Dutch Design Week in 2016.

It is interesting to see what our new students are going to do with the semester, and the energy and enthusiasm they will add to the programme promise exciting times.

"We didn't really do that much group work during high school in Romania, so that's something that I'm looking forward to doing. Everyone here seems very nice so I think that working on group projects will be a blast. Also, the seminars we've had so far have been both informative and inspirational. From what I have seen so far, I can already tell that this year will be very interesting." ~ Matei

"I am jumping straight into the ATLAS program... It's going to be highly demanding, but it already feels satisfying"

Pim Schoolkate, Class of 2020

"The start of the academic year was an exciting moment to kick off this new chapter of my academic career. I am very much looking forward to start studying and expanding my horizon… I am thrilled about the opportunities to learn and grow not only as a student but also as a person. University College Twente will provide the perfect environment." ~ Maggie

"Never before have I been so excited to dive into a period of my life! I feel happiness and clarity, surrounded by people that already feel like friends for life. I am jumping straight into the ATLAS program… It's going to be highly demanding, but it already feels satisfying." ~ Pim

This is the second year we have had such a large class, and integration seems to be going well. After such an excellent start, we look forward to seeing how the community and program will evolve.
