Sports in ATLAS how ATLAS student unwind after studying

As ATLAS can be an intense study from time to time, our students need to find some way to unwind and stay healthy. There's a strong sporting culture here, with plenty avenues in which to express that, from associations to pick-up games.

Beck Wittenstrom, a now second year, started the Sunday Frisbee League, which as you might guess, plays ultimate frisbee every Sunday. Starting out with a few ATLAS and Advanced Technology students, it proved to be a great medium for inter-association and inter-year integration! The group now has around 30 participants, and still meets regularly, with first years also joining. After joining a few games, I saw it as a great way to enjoy a quiet weekend. You just walk to the green on campus at around noon, play intensely for a couple of hours, and then chill and drink smoothies.  Definitely worth it.

It lets you connect with people you wouldn’t normally

Since last year, there’s also a regular gym group, and the Manatees, our own football team. Emile Menard, a regular player mentions that "It's just if you want to casually go around and play football, go out there and kick a ball around with your friends."

Within Atlantis, we have a Sports committee. They deal with setting up events and acquiring equipment. For example, they set up a friendly volleyball evening, they manage the Manatees. Last year, Titus Venverloo was a member of this committee. He talks about his initial motivation being primarily about bringing people together: “It’s something completely different to your studies, and so it lets you connect with people you totally wouldn’t normally.”
