UT delegation on a study tour to Silicon Valley

How will the UT make use of digital testing? Do we want to devote ourselves wholesale to MOOCs (free online courses)? And how will we handle blended learning? Digitalization in education is an important spearhead in the accentuated strategy Vision 2020. Within the UT experiments are run in various areas, but a solid vision on digitalization in education is currently missing.

Study tour to Silicon Valley

As one of the steps taken in order to be able to set down a clear vision by the end of the year a UT delegation will go on study tour to Silicon Valley from 20 to 27 September. The delegation will visit several inspiring renewing companies and organizations, including the Khan Academy, Coursera, Cisco and Stanford University. The delegation consists of, among others, Rector Ed Brinksma, Dean of Educational Reform Ramses Wessel, several representatives from the educational programmes and several members of the IT Board.

In addition, the theme of the Education Day on 21 October will be ICT in education, and that same morning there will be a strategy workshop for invitees (from student to rector) about open and online learning. The day will be concluded by Studium Generale with a debate about MOOCs. Both the study tour and the education day will provide important input to the digitalization vision of the UT, which will have to ready at the end of the year.

During the study tour there will be a daily blog about their trip. Follow the study tour: www.utwente.nl/blog-study-trip-silicon-valley
