How you will spend your third and last year is completely up to you! This year is aimed at preparing yourself for your life after UCT. You will spend one semester away from UCT, and in the final semester, you will work on your graduation project: a key element in completing your profile and your Bachelor’s at UCT!
Semester 5: study abroad Exchange & internship
Time to leave your UCT-bubble! The fifth semester has no fixed courses, no projects: you decide what you will do during this semester. There are many options to choose from:
- Exchange within the University of Twente of another university in the Netherlands: follow elective courses or minors.
- Exchange within another University College in the Netherlands: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Maastricht or Groningen.
- Study abroad: in the USA, Japan, Australia or other European universities.
- Internship: learn and develop in a host organisation, integrating knowledge and theory with practical applications and skills development.
The choice is yours!
Semester 6: Graduation semester
You are about to graduate. The sixth and last semester centres on your graduation / capstone project. You will carry out an individual research project within a research group either at UT or beyond, and the topic is up to you and the profile you developed throughout the last two-and-a-half years. You can connect with ongoing research within a predefined project or settle on a topic yourself. Alongside your research project, you will follow elective courses, sessions, and workshops supporting your academic development. You can also opt to pursue an internship as well during semester 6!
In principle, an internship in semester 6 is half a semester, around 10 to 15 EC. The amount of ECs is determined together with the supervisor and host organisation. It has to contribute to the academic development of the student and the attainment of the semester goals. The learning goals formulated for an internship have to refer to the student’s aspirations regarding profile and academic development and to the general purpose of internships (exploration of career prospects; gain practical experience, develop profile, develop professional skills).
