We start every year with about 90 to 100 students.

About 85 per cent of students receive positive binding study advice after their first year. 70 per cent of students finish the programme within three years.
What is the difference between this programme and similar programmes elsewhere?
The University of Twente has a modern educational model that integrates theory and practice. Our educational model allows you to work together with companies. The atmosphere is wonderful and there are excellent opportunities for getting international experience. You also complete a graduation project at a business or company.
What is the difference between this programme at the University of Twente and an Industrial Engineering and Management programme at ‘hbo’ level?
In general, an Industrial Engineering and Management programme at ‘hbo’ level is more business-orientated. This means that barely touches on mathematical models, simulation and optimization techniques. Industrial Engineering and Management at the University of Twente is technically orientated and focuses a lot on these areas.
What is the male/female ratio in this programme?
About 75 per cent of students in this programme are male and 25 per cent female.

How much mathematics is there in the first year?
Mathematics is an important part of this programme. During the first year, you dedicate 10 ECs (study points) to mathematics and 9 ECs to statistics and probability.
What language are the textbooks in?
The books are in English.
How much do textbooks cost in the first year?
You will spend about €600 on textbooks for the first year. As you can use many of these books again in the following years, you spend less on books later on.
Does the programme involve any other costs, aside from tuition and text books?
On top of tuition and textbooks there are other costs if you want to study. For example, you will need a laptop. You might also have travel expenses, and if you don't live at home, you need to think of expenses such as rent and food. Thankfully, rooms are relatively cheap in Enschede and the surrounding area.
Do I need a laptop?
Yes, a laptop is essential. If you don't have a laptop, you can get one at a discount through the University of Twente. For more information on the laptop scheme, visit the Notebook Service Centre website.
In what language are the lectures given?
The Industrial Engineering and Management lectures are all in English.
Is there any tutoring?
We offer an excellent tutoring programme. In addition to your study advisor, you can also get support from tutors and assistants. The assistants are students from more advanced years who can help you with subject-related questions.
Can I travel abroad during my studies?
Yes, and we encourage it! You can study abroad during the first semester of your third year. You can also do your graduation project in the second semester abroad, or your third year.
